Gardener’s Cottage is an olde worlde two-bedroom cottage in the gardens of Quernmore Park Hall Estate. This well appointed refurbished cottage hosts its very own private entrance to our Secret Walled Garden that was once the workplace for Monks when Quernmore Park Hall was a monastery.

Brief History

The estate of Quernmore Park Hall in 1630, was conveyed by the Crown to Roger Downes of Wardley and then sold c.1675 to Sir Thomas Preston of Furness and eventually became part of the lands of the Clifford family and later in 1794 then becoming part of the lands of Charles Gibson of Preston.

The Lady Of Eden

You’re in the Secret Garden of fairest Eve

Her magic spell coercing all to believe

Charmed by a New World, her fragile web to weave

A World lost in the Sea of Infinity

The Cosmos beyond our reason to conceive

Folk tales, monks’ toil, war, their lasting mark to leave

Bright eyed boy soldiers, joined up, mothers defied

Trailing apron strings, in their millions, died

Uncared for, on foreign field or distant shore

They will hear sounds and see sights of home no more

Nor to revel in their beloved country

Harvests of ripe fruitfulness in Eve’s Fine Fairs

Bursting with home grown foods, grapes, plums apples, pears

A perfumed brew of rose and magnolia

Red, white, blue hydrangea, white wisteria

Floral delight, walks to pleasurise the sight

For one sublime tick of time discard your cares

You can’t bring back loved ones, lost over the years

They are already locked in your memory

Waiting to re-live life’s magical journey

Caress precious peace, solicit stress release

Lift the veil, rest your mind, your true self to find

A strange sound? Echoes of bygone times abound

The North Wind howls surging from earth’s deepest bowels

You might glimpse the villagers before night falls

Stacking horse and cart, shutting down sturdy stalls

Wending their way as dusk settles on the day

Now feel the rich calm of this enchanted space

Hear the serene siren’s song, catch her frail face

Images locked in, a sad plaintive voice calls

Freed fleetingly from within these ancient walls

Most will never savour gentle Eve’s essence

A chosen few only will sense her presence

Or feel her rare embrace in this special place

Soon we’ll all brave death’s odyssey, that long sleep

But first to journey where your heart has to be

Will you then be the one we see and hear weep?

Enthralled by lovely Eve for eternity

Is this ever your destiny, never free?

If this comes to be, then you’ll surely meet me
